WordPress 7.0 è diventato agent-ready. ERP e CRM senza progetti di integrazione da mesi.
The world's most widespread CMS now speaks natively to enterprise AI agents
On 20 May 2026 WordPress makes its CMS compatible with the Model Context Protocol. For businesses using WordPress in their digital stack — corporate sites, B2B e-commerce, booking portals — this means the site can become an active node of agentic automation without replacing what already works.
WordPress has adopted the Model Context Protocol: the world’s most widespread CMS now speaks natively to enterprise AI agents. For those managing manufacturing, services, legal and facility operations — to name just a few examples — the website stops being an isolated silo and becomes an active node of the digital stack.
The context
In many of the businesses we work with, the WordPress site is a consolidated asset. It holds the product catalogue, collects contacts, manages orders or bookings, and also handles support through user-restricted areas. Just a few metres away, in the same office, an ERP or CRM manages invoices, stock levels, master data and commercial workflows. Yet the two systems do not talk to each other. Or they do so through Excel exports, manual imports and custom scripts that nobody remembers writing.
When marketing updates a price list on the site, the ERP does not know. When a B2B client fills in a form, the sales rep finds out hours later, if not the next day. Until now, solving this required an integration project: APIs to build, middleware to maintain, plugins to install, tests to repeat at every WordPress update. Budgets ranging from several weeks to several months, plus ongoing residual maintenance.
The operational shift
With the release of version 7.0, WordPress has introduced native compatibility with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) into its core. In operational terms — without delving into the protocol mechanics — this means WordPress can now describe its own functions in a standard format that an AI agent recognises natively.
No custom connector needs to be built. No external middleware is required. The AI agent discovers what the site can do — read an order, update a post, query a WooCommerce catalogue, publish a page — and does so respecting the permissions and capabilities already defined in WordPress. For an Operations Director or the CEO of a mid-sized business, the advantage is not technological. It is economic and organisational.
Operational benefits
01. No migration
The existing site, theme and plugins stay where they are. You add a conversational capability; you do not replace the infrastructure.
02. No double work
The agent synchronises product catalogues, orders, leads and content between the site and the management system, reducing transcription errors and reaction times.
03. A single point of governance
Automation is traceable, permissioned and reversible. It is not a series of hidden scripts on a server, but a governed flow.
Field validation: the Swiss pilot
We are not announcing a roadmap. We are testing. On an active project in Ticino, we are verifying how AVA manages — via MCP — content, contact forms and document flows on an existing WordPress infrastructure.
The goal is not to prove that the technology works, but to measure the actual integration time compared with a custom approach, and to verify that data governance remains intact: servers in Europe, no leakage to third-party LLMs, granular permissions.
If the protocol is standard, value shifts entirely to integration design: which site capabilities to expose to the agent, which data to let transit, who authorises what. This is the system integration work we have been doing for a long time: we do not sell a plugin, we design how the website, ERP and CRM can finally talk to each other without building bridges for every new requirement.
A few simple examples across different sectors
Manufacturing
WooCommerce product catalogue updated automatically from the ERP. Stock levels and price lists on the site reflect the real warehouse state without manual intervention.
Hospitality
Bookings and availability from the site updated in real time to the management system. Promotional content published by the agent based on occupancy rates.
Professional Services
Consultancy request forms on the site that generate activities directly in the CRM, with full traceability and no double entry.
Facility & Retail
B2B orders from the site that land in the commercial workflow with attached documentation, ready for confirmation and fulfilment.
Security and control
Protocol standardisation lowers the cost and time of integration. At the same time, it exposes the site’s functions to the outside world in a structured way. Without a permissions model, audit logs and API cost control, activating these functions can produce operational surprises.
That is why, in our modus operandi, we integrate with governance by design: granular permissions, action tracking, deployment on European cloud or on-premise, and the ability to disable any MCP exposure without touching the underlying CMS. The standard protocol reduces technical friction. Integration design guarantees operational sustainability and data security.
Conclusion
WordPress 7.0 does not force you to change platform, nor to buy new software. If you have a company website on WordPress and a management system that does not talk to it, connecting them now costs less. But only if the connection is designed to last, to be secure and reversible.
If you run a WordPress site and want to understand whether your stack is ready for this step, the first question is not technical: which processes between website and back office today cost you the most time, errors and delays? Against those the real value of agentic integration is measured.
