Visual search for fashion e-commerce

Numerous fashion multi-brands like ASOS and Zalando are implementing visual search, which is a search through a photo uploaded by the user that, thanks to an algorithm, allows finding the desired object.

In the fashion industry, the use of searches using images is of great importance. Firstly, it is a sector strongly based on style and design, for this reason, searching by product type, color, model becomes of great importance for multi-brands like ASOS and Zalando that offer a large number of brands. Nowadays, social networks are increasingly visual, just think of Instagram, Tik Tok up to the visual social network par excellence: Pinterest.

It is no coincidence that it has been studied how images create much more engagement considering that we process images 60,000 times faster than textual information.

Visual search is implemented thanks to deep learning and image recognition technologies, where Artificial Intelligence recognizes images and groups them according to clusters of similar products by model, color, and so on. So instead of a textual search, it is possible to use screenshots or photos to find the desired product.
