What is meant by NLP?

In the realm of Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing is gaining increasing importance, which involves the analysis, understanding, and processing of natural language through algorithms.

Making human language “assessable” through this technology involves several phases.

Usually, in the first part of the process, the observed texts are considered as strings composed of a set of individual characters, and the algorithms then give a syntactic sense, establishing the grammatical correctness of the words and the relationship between them.

The second phase, called discourse, aims to place the previous analyses within the specific context; finally, the data must also be interpreted in relation to linguistic, phonetic, and cultural conventions.

NLP thus creates an articulated bridge between human language and that of machines, and from this intersection arise practical applications that offer companies interesting innovative potentials.

4 NLP solutions

Below we list four NLP solutions that provide a competitive advantage for companies in very different sectors.

  • Text and document screening: thanks to more sophisticated AI algorithms, after analyzing and understanding the content of a document, it is possible to apply filters that allow the texts under consideration to be sifted. Machine Learning algorithms are trained based on certain parameters and keywords, so they can distinguish, for example, when an email can be classified as spam and according to what degree of confidence, or certainty.

Aidia has worked on the development of software for the automation of CV screening. Such modernization has made it possible to avoid human biases, save time in the examination of received resumes, and immediately assess the relevance of the application to the offered position. These initial considerations are always followed by an examination by the company’s human resources team, which makes further evaluations.

  • Data extraction from back-office documents: NLP models have the ability to meticulously analyze forms used for business activities, from commercial to bureaucratic documents, both digital and paper, and subsequently interpret them correctly. Through such language models, it is possible to transform inputs into essential data, also automating operations at risk of errors or impossible to complete manually due to the high volume.

Aidia has developed software for a car rental company. The client had to manage large amounts of information daily, such as identity cards, documents, and rental contracts. Thanks to customized software tailored to the company’s needs, many operations for managing documentation have been automated, making workflows faster and more efficient.

  • Automatic correction algorithms: in a company, communication is central every day, both internally and externally, with suppliers, customers, and stakeholders. The frenzy of tasks to be completed and non-extendable deadlines can often lead to haste and a tendency to make mistakes, both spelling and conceptual. Through NLP, it is easy to check the spelling of various messages, avoiding errors and misunderstandings.

Aidia has assisted a logistics company by developing an NLP solution that allowed the client to reduce errors in shipping documents by 20%. Issues related to misunderstandings or incorrect data were avoided, and the overall workflow was made more efficient.

  • Sentiment Analysis: for a company, the importance of listening is now undeniable. Sentiment analysis aims to understand what customers, both potential and established, think through an analysis of user-generated content on the web. Algorithms can analyze millions of inputs (such as posts, comments, etc.), contextualize them, and provide very reliable results about widespread opinions and shared sentiments.

Aidia developed a solution for a watch company that wanted to understand the perception of its brand within the target audience. Deep learning provided the executives with an analysis of the sentiments among customers, allowing them to focus on their strengths and weaknesses and develop brand messages to strengthen the company’s image.

With NLP solutions, it becomes easier to process and analyze texts, the acquisition of information becomes a smooth journey, and the much-talked-about digitalization takes the necessary steps towards its completion.
